I don't know what to say about the hurricane, so I'll talk about comic books instead.
I recently bought/read:
1. Essential X-Men volume 6: A very important chapter in X-Men history, even if I dislike the portrayal of Cyclops.* This volume has the Trial of Magneto, the Mutant Massacre, the birth of Cable, the first appearance of Psylocke and the first Wolverine/Sabertooth fight (Sabertooth started out as an Iron Fist villain, believe it or not). Of course, parts of it are hard to follow unless you also have the corresponding issues of New Mutants, Secret Wars II and the Longshot mini-series handy.
*There's one part where the X-Men all have to go to Europe, and they leave Scott's wife Madelyne behind, and afterwards she says that they all called her from Europe...except Scott. Because he's just that much of an asshole, I guess. Damn you and your favoritism, Chris Claremont!
2. Superman: The Man of Steel volume 4: Collecting the late-80's Byrne-revision Superman. What can I say--I grew up with it. This volume mainly concerns fixing a continuity glitch. See, the 30th century Legion of Superheroes took its inspiration from Superboy, but in Byrne's version there *was* no Superboy--he was already Super*man* when he started. I don't know why they couldn't just change it to have them be inspired by Super*man*, but instead they decided to have a story with pocket universes and some guy called the Time Trapper. That must be why I don't write comics.
3. Green Arrow: Quiver by Kevin Smith. I have to admit I was afraid this would be Green Arrow: Chasing Amy, but Smith did a pretty good job (although you can tell he wrote it because the characters are so focused on sex). KS writes an excellent Batman as well. Etrigan's lines suggest that his rhyming verse could use some work, though. And the soul-body thing made no sense. Still worth reading.
